Birdcage Face Veil - Stylish Vintage Appeal
The birdcage face veil is a comfortable and versatile veil choice. Not every woman wants to wear a longer, heavier veil. Birdcage veils are also nice if you want to wear a hair flower or fascinator clip with your veil. While there is certainly nothing wrong with a traditional veil, many modern brides look for a birdcage face veil because it gives a unique style. Plus, it's easy and comfortable to wear. And, the smaller veil doesn't hide or detract from the beauty of your gown or dress, and it draws attention to your face.
There are several different styles of birdcage face veils available. Some attach with one comb on the top or side of the had, while others, like the bandeau veil, attach with two combs: one on either side. The length, edge line, and level of poufiness can be adjusted by the veil designer.
These veils have really become popular again, and choosing a cage veil over a more traditional veil is simply a matter of personal style and choice.
When to Choose a Birdcage Face Veil?
Well, obviously, if you enjoy a movie star look, or you enjoy a sense of vintage style, a cage veil is a great option. Plus, this is the perfect choice if you want to wear another hair accessory or you want to wear a smaller veil at your wedding reception. And, the birdcage veil offers an aura that is hard to attain with more traditional styles.
If you plan to wear a large feather fascinator, hair flower clip, or bridal mini hat, the birdcage veil is easy to wear and very comfortable. After the wedding, you can bunch the netting up and style it around your bun or in a pouf on one side of your head. Or, simply remove the veil and wear your hair flower or fascinator to your reception.
Select the Right Birdcage Face Veil
You can have your birdcage veil made in just about any shape and size you like, and they can be made from different netting materials, including tulle. Most birdcage face veils feature a classic diamond-shaped netting (Russian or French net), usually employing accents such as chenille dots or crystal accents. Veiling is available in all colors though common colors are classic white, ivory, and black. Custom cage veil makers will normally offer color choices and will customize to meet your specific needs.
The angle veil can be just a triangle made from a swatch of veiling, or it can be a small birdcage veil gathered into a cap shape to go around your head, or even a larger angle veil can be made to cover your head but still be worn offset on one side. The bandeau veil stretches from side to side and fits a little closer to the head. And, full head birdcage veils are also made for a high fashion look. You can even pair a birdcage veil with a traditional long tulle veil in the back, such as the style made popular in the movie Rise of the Silver Surfer.
How to Wear a Birdcage Face Veil
Decide how long you want your veil to be from side to side, as well as top to bottom (where do you want the edge line to fall). Things to consider include placement of the combs. For example, if you want your combs placed far back on the head towards the back, the veiling material will need to be longer to stretch around your face. We can custom make your veil to fit. Let us know how you want to wear your hair or where you intend to place your combs, and where you want the veil edge line to fall. For bandeau (side to side) veils, simply measure from comb to comb around the front of the face and send your measurements (typically, these are cut 16-17 inches, but can be made longer or shorter in length for a custom fit). Cage veils are traditionally 9 inches, 11 inches, or 18 inches (from top to bottom), but we can make the edge fall where you want it, just contact us before or after placing your order.
Once you get your veil, slide the combs into your hair on either the top or sides of your head, depending on the style of veil. Additional bobby pins can be used to gather and shape the veil on the sides or on top to hold it closer down and shape it around your head. In fact, most veils will need additional pinning to customize the fit. Extra bobby pins and instructions will be included with your veil. Some have suggested that you place your veil on a Styrofoam head form in the shape as you intend to wear it, then spray the veil with hairspray to get it to hold its shape.
Birdcage Face Veil HairstylesWhen choosing a birdcage face veil, consider how you want to wear your hair. Birdcage veil hairstyles do offer some flexibility, but you will be placing the combs or clips on each side of the head, so keep this in mind. Look at wedding blogs for some ideas on birdcage veil hairstyles. Also do a search for "vintage wedding" on google and you are sure to come up with some inspiration from brides wearing these fun veils.
A low bun, Gibson roll, or even wearing your hair loose can be flattering hair styles worn with birdcage veils. If you plan to do your hair in an up-do, just make sure it doesn't interfere with placement of your veil. If the bun, braid, or other design is too high and tight, it might not work with your cage veil.
Birdcage veils are elegant and stylish. Enjoy this return of a vintage classic, and enjoy feeling thoroughly modern and stylish.
Birdcage bridal veils can be made to attach with combs or clips, or may also be attached to bridal headbands, or as shown in the photo, a bridal hat with bird cage veil.
